Shoyu: The Liquid Gold of Japanese Cuisine

When we talk about Japanese cuisine, shoyu, or Japanese soy sauce, occupies a special and irreplaceable place. But what exactly is shoyu and how can you use it to enhance your dishes?

Shoyu is a traditional Japanese soy sauce. Unlike other forms of soy sauce, shoyu contains a higher proportion of wheat, giving it a richer, deeper and more complex flavor.

Shoyu is more than just a side dish for sushi or fried rice. Due to its complex flavor, shoyu is ideal for:

  • Marinades: Use shoyu in combination with garlic, ginger and a little sesame oil for an excellent marinade for fish or meat.
  • Spaghetti Sauces: Add some shoyu to a sauce of garlic, ginger and fresh vegetables for an Asian twist on your spaghetti.
  • Salads: A little shoyu with sesame oil and lemon juice can lift a simple green salad.
  • Risotto: Try adding some shoyu to your risotto for an interesting Asian twist.

No matter how you choose to use it, shoyu is a factor of luxury in the culinary world, making every dish more flavorful and unique.
